长鼻猴是东南亚加里曼丹的特有动物。它们的鼻子大得出奇，其中雄性猴子随着年龄的增长鼻子越来越大，最后形成像茄子一样的红色大鼻子。

懒猴又名蜂猴、风猴。体型较小。白天，懒猴多蜷成球状藏在高大的乔木树冠中、枝丫上或树洞里酣睡；行动异常缓慢，只有危急时才有所加快，故名之。懒猴以野果为食，也捕捉昆虫、小鸟，特别爱吃鸟蛋。主要栖于热带沟谷雨林中。

The island of Borneo

is a truly enchanted place of lush forests and rivers.

If you go down to the mangrove swamp today,

you will surely get a big surprise.

Because sitting in the trees

there are some of the world's oddest-looking monkeys.

These guys are known as Proboscis monkeys.

Their name comes from that pendulous nose.

What a schnoze!

Only the big males have such big noses

and the larger the schnozzle

the more impressed the ladies.

Probocis monkeys aren't the only strange creatures living here.

Look carefully in the trees

and you might see a Binturong,

an animal that truly defies description.

It looks like it should be a friend of fuzzy bear,

but it lives here in the rainforests of Borneo.

A Binturong not only looks like a rug,

it also acts like one!

As night falls the monkeys settle to sleep,

the Binturong goes into action.

They spend their time in a constant search for food.

Although they are carnivores

they much prefer dining on ripe fruit.

A prehensile tail,

which acts like a fifth limb,

allows them climb about safely in the treetops.

Nightime reveals another distinctly strange creature,

the Slow Loris.

With its sinewy movements

and singular lack of enthusiasm

it is remarkable that such a creature

can feed itself at all,

but looks can be deceiving!

Lorises are not only found on Borneo,

this is the aptly named Slender Loris,

which lives in Southern India.

It's just as strange.

But whether in India or Borneo,

the huge eyes of the Lorises

give them supreme night vision.

Such deliberate movements

almost seem to hypnotise their prey

as they creep around the trees.

But even the trees around here are strange in design.

Mangroves have huge exposed roots

like giant spider's legs

which trap the silt creating very fertile mud flats.

And living on these mud flats

are some fish with some truly bizarre habits.

They live out of water.

Mud Skippers love mud so much

they are prepared to fight for it.

But these mud flats are under constant

assault from the sea.

Twice a day as the tide comes in

their roots are submerged.

It's a problem that everyone has learned to deal with.

It's time for the crabs to batten down the hatches.

When the tide is in,

the Proboscis monkeys have to take

to the water to get from tree to tree.

Proboscis monkeys may look bizarre to us

but to each other they are simply beautiful

in their own special way of course.

可是它们比较喜欢食用成熟的水果

它们的尾巴有抓握的功能就像是第五肢

让它们能安全地爬到树梢上

在夜间还会出现另一种相当奇怪的生物

懒猴

懒猴的行动强而有力而且异常地懒散

怪的是这样的生物可以养活自己

外表有时可是会骗人的

懒猴不只在婆罗洲出没

这只叫做瘠懒猴名字取得很贴切

住在印度南部，和懒猴一样怪

但不论是在印度还是婆罗洲

懒猴大大的双眼给予它们夜间绝佳的视力

当它们缓慢地在树上爬行

如此慬慎的动作几乎像是在催眠猎物

即便是周遭的树形状也很奇特

红树林庞大且外露的根部像是巨型蜘蛛的脚

可以拦截泥沙形成肥沃的淤泥滩

淤泥滩里有一些习性奇特的鱼

它们可以离开水面生活

弹涂鱼非常喜爱泥土

所以它们要为泥土开战

但是这些淤泥滩正面临大海的持续攻击

一天两次涨潮时，根部会被淹没

这个问题大家都得学着去克服

对螃蟹而言现在是时候该做好准备了

涨潮时，长鼻猴必须走进水里才能从这棵树走到另一棵树

对我们而言也许长鼻猴长的很奇特
